Firefox refuses to begin connecting to pages at when the program opens
Ever since I updated to Firefox 35.0, the browser has an incredibly hard time actually connecting to anything when it opens. By this I don't mean it can't connect to pages, what I mean is that it just won't start the connection process. When I type in an address, the window simply says "Connecting..." with the wheel, and then doesn't do anything. No "waiting to connect," no "Resolving host," nothing at the bottom of the window to suggest it is actually attempting to make a connection. About a couple minutes later, it's suddenly able to make attempts to connect. I don't know what's going on. I refreshed, reinstalled, cleared cookies. Nothing seems to fix this. I shouldn't have to wait over 3 minutes just to get Firefox to actually make an effort to connect. This is frustrating.

Fix problems connecting to websites after updating Firefox
That's not the problem. These assume that Firefox is at least attempting to connect to the pages in question. The problem is that Firefox isn't attempting to connect in my situation. It just sits there for 3 or 4 minutes before it decides to attempt a connection.
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Except I don't have any firewall or antivirus software running.
Allow me to explain the connection problem in simple terms: 1. Software starts connection process 2. Connection goes through various permissions 3. Connection is received
What your solutions are referring to is dealing with Step 2. My problem has something to do with Step 1. The software is stalling for some reason before it decides to attempt a connection. Once it actually does, it runs fine.
