Since upgrading to Firefox 4 I have had nothing but trouble. How do I downgrade and not lose my bookmarks? Or just downgrade without uninstalling Firefox?
It won't load properly, freezes, crashes unexpectedly, won't pull up PDF files from web sites and has issues running with hotmail. I've used Firefox for years and have never had this kind of problem. How do I downgrade to an older version? The new version 4 is obviously not ready to run and is riddled with problems.

I have just been made to look a right fool because of Firefox 4. My boss now thinks I cannot access a simple email! He was having issues with IE and his homepage had been hijacked, so I installed Firefox (forgetting it automatically installed the newest version) and it was horrible. The stupid browser won't open the Tiscali email in-box for some reason and it made it look like I had done something wrong, but it works perfectly well on my computer which runs the latest Firefox 3.6. I downloaded 4 for home use because I thought it would be even better, but it was truly awful and I erred by downloading it for my boss, thinking it would make his internet use better! Now I had to uninstall loads of rubbish from his IE browser and reset it all.
All the buttons have moved, the tabs are in the wrong place and it is unresponsive! Why on earth have they trashed Firefox!
To get back on track with my home browser, all I did was reactivate the install of Firefox 3.16.6 (I kept the install file luckily) and it overwrote the horrible Firefox 4 and all was back to normal. All my bookmarks and quicklinks were still in place.
I think it is full of bugs, and my recommendation is to search for Firefox three, and (without un-installing Firefox 4) run the install file as normal to revert to your previous (much better and fully working) browser. It worked for me. If Mozilla force Firefox 4 on me I will switch to Google Chrome or IE. It is HORRIBLE. Mozilla what were you thinking! Sort your act out!!!!! Don't fix what is not broken!
You can install any earlier versions of Firefox from the link below.
Download Firefox 3.6.16 here and get back to being able to use your web browser until they sort the darn bugs out! I am sure eventually they will have sorted out the issues of 4 so it is working again. But seriously, 4 is one bad, ugly browser!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! I was able to downgrade from the joke of a 4.0 version, using the link you provided. I'm going to bookmark that link, just in case. The PDF files from websites open now and my Hotmail is running again!! So far so good as to it not crashing. I couldn't even use Mozilla yesterday because the version 4 would crash every time I opened it. Matter of fact, anyone wishing to downgrade should go into another browser because Mozilla crashed every time I clicked the link. I opened IE and downgraded from there. I was confused the the "upgrade" button on install, but I guess they don't want to advertise that version 4.0 is junk and call it downgrade, lol!
I have to agree, fixing something that was working fine and replacing it with the new crap has led me to switch browsers.BIG FAIL MOZILLA Why do people do this shit. Turn off updating to keep your good working version or you will be forced to use the new version that is missing some well used features.
I have not gotten any results from Mozilla so I back leveled to 3.6.16. I'm all set again. I sure hope Mozilla tests any future products before releasing them. This was a complete nightmare.
V4.0 still needs a lot of work!!! Says 6 times faster, my experience was about 10 times slower!!! Won't download PDF files, does not crash, just don't get the download...
Have re-installed v3.6 until they get the new one working...
Hallelujiah!!! THANK YOU!!! Firefox 4 is a dog-and-pony-show in search of a dog and pony!! It is terrible!! Thank you for posting the site to d/l 3.6.6, which always worked like a charm and had much better features. If 4 was a beta, they should have PAID US TO USE IT.
Firefire fox 4.0 was a nightmare. I lost graphics, my computer would not respond to anything I did. I checked to make sure I did not have any Malware or Disc errors, finally I unistalled FF 4.0 and my problems were solved. I got my settings back to normal and 3.6 is working great.
I've had this problem; Firefox 4 crashes when I'm not loading pages, just reading news or looking at a webpage. It loads fine, just if it sits open for more than an hour at a time--without changing pages very much--it shuts down. How do I downgrade?
All Firefox had to to do to save me 2 days of struggle was to warn that Mac owners need OS 10.5 or newer AT THE BEGINNING of the upgrading procedure. I hope I haven't lost my old bookmarks.
Yeah its pretty dire. If I leave it, it just bombs out for no good reason, even at idle.
I've seen 'Well this is embarrassing!' more times than I've seen the Google/Mozilla start page by a factor of 10, and its like I've checked 'keep in dock' for the crash reporter!!
I'm off to make a cuppa now, bet its borked before I get back...
Come on Mozilla, sort it out!
PS do as I always do - rename Firefox's previous version to include its version number (eg Firefox3) before you install 4 to your apps folder - then you can always switch back at the drop of a hat ;-)
I uninstalled FF4 and dropped back to 3n. However - FF is still slow and hangs a lot.
I don't want to go back to IE but in some cases - especially when DLing files off web-sites - I'm forced to use it instead of FF.
Didn't work for me. Am considering a complete wipe and then a re-install but I'm not too sanguine about it.

The new FireFox 4.0 freezes when I'm opening email, on FB, checking my banking, etc. It's taking me a long time just to write this note. The typing is delayed & this version is not blazing fast! I thought I had a virus or something so I ran AVG & took out a lot of recent program updates. Only to find out that it's my new Firefox update!
Instructions for fixing problem viewing pdfs -- it cropped up mysteriously after a week or so of trouble-free use of 4.0 -- are unacceptable. Many settings and options don't correspond to what is shown on the 4.0 help page for this problem, nor are there instructions for people who have paid for full versions of Acrobat and don't want Reader to be the default. "Free" software, too, has a cost in user time. This glitch, which should have been fixed in beta, has been expensive for me and to judge from the page devoted to it, for hundreds of individual and organizations. It's not encouraging to see Mozilla say that 3.6 will be available for download only "temporarily." Please encourage friends and colleagues with this problem to add their voices until the sleepy giant awakens.
Also simply reinstalling Firefox 4 may help. I had bad freezing problems during one week. I think they started already after the last update of Firefox 3.6 March 23. Then I took Firefox 4 because that 3.6 seemed unstable. Firefox was then working well only one day. Yesterday I simply run the same setup again without removing Firefox. Now Firefox seems working very well since yesterday evening. Let see if it is still stable one week later.
Working without jamming already two days.

I'm having the same problem. I went back to firefox 3.6 cos 4.0 messed up my computer. What ever 4.0 did I can't correct it. When I go to different sites it crashes. I am so tired of this I think I just might use a different provider Why don't they fix this??????????
yemaya -- I have reinstalled 3 times without any success. What's even more strange is that after upgrading and shutting down last night upon returning to work and opening FF, it was in the previous version as if I had never upgraded!
I upgraded to 4.0 at least i tried and when i tried to open firefox i was asked to restart my computer this is being going on again and again, I tried to unistall firefox 4.0 and i will NOT unistall Again is asking me to restart my computer. I am so mad i just want to get rid of firefox once and for all
