I see that Firefox 69 enabled Enhanced Tracking Protection for all users by default. I'm curious as to why it is not working (no shield icon) on Facebook.

Hi AZBigDog,

Do you still see the shield icon when on Facebook, just it's grayed out, or do you not see it at all?

Let's check to see if Facebook somehow got added as an exception in your preferences.

  • Type about:preferences#privacy into your address bar.
  • Click on the Manage Exceptions box under Enhanced Tracking Protection
  • Check to see if Facebook is listed here. If it is, remove it from the list.

Hi AZBigDog, what were you expecting to be blocked?

Tracking protection is targeted toward "third party" servers, so if you are on https://www.facebook.com/ then Facebook is the "first party" and tracking protection doesn't apply to that address. If there are advertising servers providing content to the page, those might be blocked.

Hi Ballison,

There is no shield at all when on facebook.com. That was what caught my eye right away. I also looked at the Manage Exceptions and there are no websites in there at all.

Hi jsher2000,

Ok I can understand part of that but Facebook is loaded with other ads and trackers. I would've thought those would have caused the tracking protection to kick in
