I've read the AOL help page that discusses using the " one time password " for non AOL programs to get access to my verizon email. It worked once and not a second time. I had to generate a new password each time I want to get my email from AOL. I have been using the AOL web page to get my email for months. Since July, actually. If I couldn't login for that long, and the one time password works, for now, is the new AOL login really my problem ?

I found this thread in these forums: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1345467

That talks about changing both the incoming and outgoing server passwords to the one time password. Wouldn't that change my login to my verizon email? The one time password would over ride my normal password, right?

I'm running 81.5.0 Thunderbird.

The one-time, or app password is only used to replace the account password in TB. The account password needn't be changed, and is still used to access the account on the AOL website. When you enter the app password in TB, there should be a checkbox to have it stored in Preferences, so it's only entered once.
