I've set my standard email program to Gmail so whenever I click a mailto: link, it opens Gmail instead of Mac Mail / Outlook. This works great, the only problem is that it opens the new email in the same window I'm working in instead of in a new tab. I know holding cmd while left clicking on the mouse sort of fixes this, but it's not the same.

Is there any way I can change this?

You can use Middle click too.
