When I try to read my e-mail through Outlook the hot keys do not work. I have to mouse click on the message before the keys work (escape, delete, page up/dn, up/dn, etc.). Apparently focus has been lost. Sometimes after focus has been regained the keys will work for several messages. Sometimes I have to click on each message before the keys work. I don't have this problem with IE or Chrome.

You can check for issues caused by plugins.

  • set plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the about:addons page ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Plugins)
  • plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
