Now when checking my gmail address in Thunderbird "Login to server imap.googlemail.com failed". Verified I have Thunderbird latest release. Changed and then tried to log in with new Gmail password Mail available directly through Gmail but more convenient to check all at once. Thankyou.

You need to logon to you g-mail account online, then in your preferences you have to set it to allow other programs access. You can follow this guide

Thanks very much - gmail is available through Thunderbird. Though the old link with the same name still shows and provides the same error message. Afraid if I delete the un-working old one the new one will disappear so I'll work around it. Thanks again
