I have a persistent ad banner which appears only on Amazon and Ebay sites, and only in Firefox. It began just a few weeks ago, and for the first few days it was an ad for Ebates, but now it changed to advertise some epsystore.com I attached a screenshot of it. There is no plugin, no add-on which I did not install. I removed and reinstalled Firefox but it did not help. Has anyone seen this? Is there a way to get rid of this thing?

If you think you may have ad/mal-ware, further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Some ads are part of the webpage.

Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for a good ad blocker.

I don't have. The '%AppData%/Mozilla' directory was removed ?

Thank you for reply. I am using ad blockers. And this banner is not part of the website. It never shows up when I open Amazon on Chrome (even without ad blocker), and it never showed up until two weeks ago. That's why I suspect some malware, but no program is able to find it.

Chrome does block ads it finds or is reported as problem so you will never see them. A better test is boot your computer with Windows options "Safe Mode with Networking" and try again to get to the same site and see if the ads show up or not.

Thank you for the link to malware scanners! AdwCleaner found adware and removed it.

Glad to help. Safe Surfing.

It’s very sad, but many software downloaders/ installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well.

You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print.

You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does.

From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.

Note that these programs can also change browser/computer settings.
