Hello, Firefox 67.0 (64 bit) does not allow me to choose a folder when I bookmark a page. It does not matter when way I save the bookmark, the star, bookmark for pull down menus. When I bookmark a page it automatically saves to 'other bookmark' folder. Use to give me the options of which folder. How can I repair? I have reinstalled a couple times. I hve never cared for FF bookmarks. Is there an alternative bookmark app for FF? Thank You, t

Hi razzu, on the first part:

The next time you create a new bookmark or you are on a bookmarked page, click the blue star icon in the address bar and look for the "Show editor when saving" checkbox:

Does that help?

Also, if you prefer a different default folder instead of Other Bookmarks, there is an add-on for that. See: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/default-bookmark-folder/ -- you need to go to its options to select your preferred folder; you do not need to use its optional one-click button unless you want to assign a different folder to each.

I have seen add-ons for web-based bookmark services, but I've never tried any of them myself.

When I press the Star for Bookmark on the bar to bookmark a page. It is automatically put into "other bookmarks", there are no options. The window that usually pops down doesn't appear. I have to then open 'show all bookmarks' to move from other bkmrks to the apporpreate folder.

This started a about 10 days ago. I have been using FF for years and know the program fairly well. Everything I have tried doesn't work. I have restored my profile to a post problem profile, I have reinstalled firefox. I have searched the program through a lot of different methods. I have worked with troubleshooter. All this to no avail. In my history with FF, the most problems that I have had have been with updates and that only started a few months back. To me the I would have to give FF a 3.5/5 because of the bookmarks system. I like a tree that doesn't close just because i move my cursor a millionth of an inch off the list. I could use the 'show all bookmarks' but a hassle. One guy had be pressing three buttons, if I can't just point and click I will continue to hunt for a replacement. I am running Windows 10 Pro on a desktop PC. The only other program that I use on the internet is Thunderbird. It is also been giving me hell on upgrades for around 6 months. Any more info?

Hmm, okay, let's start again.

(A) Always show the drop-down panel

In order to turn this on, you can use the method I described earlier:

 • While on a bookmarked page, click the blue star to drop the panel
 • Click the checkbox next to "Show editor when saving"

Please see the illustration in the earlier post of what that looks like.

If you would like to use a different method of changing the setting:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste bookm and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the browser.bookmarks.editDialog.showForNewBookmarks preference is set to false, double-click it to switch the value to true

(B) Keep the bookmarks menu open

One option would be the Bookmarks Sidebar. Usually Ctrl+b will open that (or close it if it's open). There's also a Sidebars toolbar button. This list is completely stationary so it can't close accidentally. However, it does take some space and you have to work with it on the side (either left or right, you can switch it) rather than the center of the screen.

There is a feature that is probably more of user to developers, but you could try it. It basically makes toolbar button drop-downs stick open persistently until you close them (either by clicking the same button again or pressing the Esc key). Perhaps you'll find it useful, but of course, if it's too annoying, you can undo the change just as easily as you make it:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste autohide and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the ui.popup.disable_autohide preference to switch the value from true to false (if you hate it, double-click to switch back)

Did it again but had done those steps several times. I check show editor but it won't stay. I did fix the problem. I uninstall Firefox. Removed all occurances in Registry. Search my C: drive and removed all. I defraged the registry and rebooted. Reinstalled and now no problems. My other reinstalls did not remove all traces. Then I imported my bookmarks from an html. Working now. Thanks for you help. T
