The title says it all - Do I still need addon HTTPS Everywhere if I enable Enable HTTPS-Only Mode in all windows in Firefox 83.0?

I don't want the two features to conflict or disable each other in some way. Is HTTPS Everywhere by the Electronic Frontier Foundation still necessary?

Hi scribus,

The EFF team started to develop the extension HTTPS-Everywhere years ago and hence were on the forefront on trying to encrypt and secure more connections on the internet. Until recently people could not imagine that HTTPS will become the default for browsers.

Times are changing and Mozilla now is the first browser to provide HTTPS-Only Mode, a native upgrading mechanism which tries to upgrade every single connection from http to https. While in theory both mechanisms upgrade connections in a similar fashion, there are some slight technical advantages for having full control over the browser that extensions do not have.

Summing it up, whether you continue to use HTTPS-Everywhere or the built-in HTTPS-Only Mode, the EFF and Mozilla ultimately want to see the entire web to be fully encrypted and secure. In that sense, both efforts complement each other.

I hope this answer your question.
