When I try to forward emails with attachments or with photo content / headings they often won't send and I get "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) vipme.dns-systems.net timed out. Try again."

I've changed the mailnews.tcptimeout from 100 to 250 having seen that suggestion online - but to no avail.

Sending other emails is not a problem.

Any suggestions?

Approximately how big are these attachments? Remember, they become much bigger when converted for email transmission. Have you shared the issue with your email host? They may not be configured for large attachments.

Thanks for your reply

I've just experimented with forwarding a few. Anything over about 200kb timed out. Some of them time out fairly quickly - but one I tried (228kb) took 4 mins to timeout. Sometimes the message box shows 100% - and they still timeout.

Forwarding two pdfs (136kb) worked fine. And a doc and a pdf (144kb) worked fine.

It seems a bit random. I then tried just sending (not forwarding) some photos - less than 200kb - and they timed out.

The email host isn't contactable - very old.

The 'good news' is that you now know where the problem lies. Your investigation may assist in getting the email host to improve service.

when i try to forward an email with an attachment in Thunderbird i have to click on the inbox and check off that i have read all emails before it will forward but i can send it from my Gmail account no problem  ????? This creates a problem because some people will not open the email when it is coming from an account that they don;t expect it to be from
