Mailbox full - How to prevent TB from automatically creating new folders in my mailbox and moving messages to them?

more options

In my TB, I have created about 20 folders where I move the messages I want to keep in my computer. TB has automatically created the same folders in my mailbox on the server (of my internet service provider) and moved the messages to the same folders. This clogs up my old mailbox which only has 200 MB of space.

How do I prevent TB from automatically creating new folders in my mailbox and moving messages to them? And how do I safely get rid of the folders in the mailbox. I only want to keep a couple of them like inbox, sent and trash.

In addition, I would appreciate if you could tell me how to prevent TB for asking if I want to create draft of a message. I like to work offline and cut off the internet connection.

If your account is IMAP, then this is exactly what's expected. You may be better off using POP instead, but the decision which account type to use is ultimately up to you. Make yourself familiar with the differences between the two types. Google is your friend. With the assumption above, to switch from IMAP to POP, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Convert_a_POP_account_to_a_IMAP_account

You can switch Thunderbird to offline mode - see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1022683 Note, with POP, there is only a local Draft folder.

Before starting to mess with it, make sure to create a full backup of your Thunderbird profile. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile
