Hello,

I have not had any problems with Firefox sync and passwords until recently. I used to use Firefox on desktop, on an iPad, and on an android, with no issues accessing my passwords. Recently I replaced my android phone with an iPhone, and after signing onto Firefox sync on said iPhone, the list of my passwords was accessible on the iPhone, but when i used it for auto-fill, it would only load the username, but not the password. This caused no issue with Firefox sync on desktop or iPad however, so I just let it be. However, after 3 months of no issue, when I open both my iPad and desktop today, all my old passwords are gone, and replaced with the few passwords I directly saved with Firefox on my iPhone.

i have tried restoring my old Firefox profile using backup software to access older files, but I am unable to regain my passwords this way. I have tried using profile data from several date ranges and that has not helped either. The issue seems to lie with Firefox sync with iOS, but I am at an absolute loss on how to resolve this, so any help at all would be much appreciated.

Our developers have finished their investigation and an update for Firefox for iOS has been published. This is version number 121.1 and we strongly recommend that you update to this as soon as possible.

If you experienced data loss with the previous update we apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused.

You may be able to recover your logins through one of two ways:

  1. Use an existing backup of your Firefox profile that you may have taken (see this support article)or,
  2. Take a backup of your Firefox profile (this article will help). Keeping Firefox closed, find the file named logins-backup.json. Take a copy of it, rename it to logins.json replacing the existing file with the same name.

We apologise that this has happened. Work is being done internally to reduce the chances of this happening again but we appreciate that this does not make up for the disruption this has caused you.

Hello Paul,

Thank you very much for your quick reply. Does this mean that the developers are already aware of this issue, and that it has happened to other people?

Thank you this is very good to hear, and I am glad that, at least from my perspective, the turn around time for this update was very quick. However, the new update is not showing up for me. I have tried manually checking for updates, but my firefox still says that version 121.0 is the current version

Firefox 121.1.0 is the current update for Firefox for iOS (iPhone/iPad) while for (desktop) Firefox the current version is still 121.0 as you can see at https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/releases/

Yes thank you, I realized that I missed that belatedly. My issue has been solved. I followed Paul's second suggestion, and found a suitable logins.json from my computer back-up software which has thankfully restored my passwords, and I have also updated Firefox on my iPhone. Thank you both for your help, I will mark this thread as solved. I will also continue to use Firefox as my browser, although this really was flirting with disaster for me, and I am lucky to have my logins stored elsewhere, concurrently with Firefox sync.
