When I open a new tab in Firefox 3.6.12, it always opens blank and I have to either type in a URL or use bookmarks to select the location.

In Internet Explorer 8, I can have each new tab open my first home page URL automatically. Is there any way to do this with Firefox?

I did look at the tab settings and there is no obvious setting.

Install an extension to get that feature.

New Tab Homepage extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/777
or
NewTabURL extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2221/

Thanks, Those "add-ons" or "extensions" are not working for me. Using Windows 7. This has been going on for a while. ~3 months ago I uninstalled FF then re-installed but it has same problems. Found about:config but wasn't sure if there is a solution on that screen.

Uninstall again? Last time I uninstalled FF, I saved the bookmarks. But the re-install already. had them in when I first opened. Not sure I did a proper uninstall/reinstall correctly.

I installed the NewTabURL extension and it worked perfectly. I am on Windows XP though.

You can also middle-click or Ctrl left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.
