Every time i fist go to firefox I get a pop up window saying Software update-- with msg: "it is strongly recommended that you apply this update as soon as possible>" When I try to click on the other msg there: "View more infomration on this update." nothing happens. I am suspicious... what is going on?

You are not running the latest version of Firefox so it may be a genuine prompt. Try downloading and installing the latest version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.com/ then see if you still get the prompt.

Alternatively, in the help menu select "About Firefox. It should then check for updates.
