Default behavior is for Firefox to open a bookmark or link in the currently selected tab. There are some tab Add-ons that have an option to automatically open in a new tab. That's the way Firefox works. You can {Ctrl + Click} or Middle-click a bookmark to have it open in a new Tab. Or you can install an extension that has a preference that can be set so you can Click on a bookmark to have it open in a new Tab; I believe TabMix Plus has that feature, and there are probably other extensions that add a pref for that.

or keep digging in the Tabbed Mix options, then Tap opening and there click on "Open Tabs From:" and select Bookmarks (and whatever else).....voila!!
