how do I restore function of my password protected passwords in the latest version of firefox?
Blocking automatic access to my stored (password protected) passwords with the recent upgrade should have been my choice, not Firefox's!
Failure to have java updates correspond with Firefox updates forces me to frequently utilize Internet Explorer (which I loathe) if I have to use it so frequently I might as well use it all of the time!

Please read and understand the question prior to posting incorrect responses! I have my passwords saved and password protected! your response has nothing to do with restoring the function removed by the latest version of firefox.
What do you mean with "Blocking automatic access to my stored () passwords"?
That is not clear to me, so I posted links to some articles that may provide the information that you need.
If that didn't help then you need to explain (clarify) better what you want to achieve or what is no longer working for you or has changed.
Blocking - to prevent access --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Automatic - no user intervention required ------------------------------------------------------
Access - to allow use of ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stored - saved for future use --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Passwords - an access code (plural) --------------------------------------------------------------
Note: this means that with previous versions of Firefox my master password protected and stored passwords would automatically fill in (after I typed in my master password) for access to websites that I commonly utilized. With the current version of Firefox (although I still have to type in the master password) my username and passwords are not automatically filled in on the website to allow me access.
If you still do not understand I apologize for not being able to make it any plainer this is a simplistic as I can get. Nothing new has been stated here, it means exactly the same thing as my concisely stated question.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.
- You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
- To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
- Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

If websites use autocomplete=off then Firefox won't fill them automatically.
