The Firefox 8 version that you now have is a beta release.

The official Firefox 8 release should be released during the next week.

It is best to stay on the release update channel unless you have experience with test builds as offered on the Aurora and Nightly updated channels that have daily updates. Such test builds can break at any time.

You can only switch update channels by installing a full version.
