WHy has Twitter has suddenly stoped working in Firefox?
Twitter has suddenly stopped working on Firefox. I noticed no action on my timeline for 10 mins and now all I get as "connection was reset" message and it refuses to load. it works fine on IE. Anyone else getting this?

hello, please try to clear the cache & cookies from twitter.com and reload the page.
That doesn't work. It seems to be widespread problem for all Firefox users.
is the problem also there when you run firefox in safemode?
Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems
I've not tried it but others have and they say it still isn't working. And there are a LOT of angry FF users out there right now over this.
All the typical canned "solutions" (clear cache, safe mode, etc., etc.) don't work ... And, yes, I've actually tried all those.
So, what's going on and how is this going to be fixed?
This is ONLY happening on Firefox.
Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.
another thing to try would be to clear the whole history for twitter as it's described here (attention: this will also clear stored passwords for the site).
in case this doesn't work either it would be helpful if you could you go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum - this might give us a clue what is going on...
STOP posting cut-n-paste NON-solutions that DO NOT WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only post a real solution that a tech has actually researched!!!!!!!!
There's currently an issue with browsing Twitter on Firefox, and the devs are looking into it. The problem is most likely on Twitter's side but it should be fixed soon.
Ah have you tried a new profile, as a test?
I can also not load twitter but can on other browsers, weird.
Right, so hopefully the message has got through that this is a serious connection issue between Twitter and Firefox and not one that can be fixed with the usual "band aid over a gaping wound" solutions?

Yay! Problem fixed. Thanks guys!
It's now a month later from your 9/12 post. Anyone know what was done to screw-up Twitter access? I was using Twitter at 11pm EDT 10/9 when a page change brought me to a bizarre page that resembles something in "safe mode". It's not responsive and I can't get to a log out. Have R&R 24.0 several times, including once removing all traces of Firefox like a piece of unused software.
Hi SLaGFYmanny, the original Twitter issue was solved a long time ago, but since it is a dynamic site that updates often, something new may be happening. It's also possible that one of your extensions is altering how the site works. If your problem persists, could you start a new question and include your system/setting information?
Here's a link to the form: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new/desktop/websites
Note: if the suggestions do not help, scroll down to continue submitting your question (I think there are a total of 3 steps starting from the above link).
Twitter simply stopped working on Firefox, and nothing has worked to fix it. This issue has been going on for the better part of a year, and it's exhausting as well as frustrating. I'm using the most current update of Firefox. I've tried all the "band-aid" solutions: I've cleared my cache and cookies. I've tried the Safe Mode. I've shut down extensions, etc. I changed the do not track option to do not tell sites anything about tracking me. The only extension I am using is Session Manager, which I've been using all along and it never caused a problem regarding Twitter usage. I tried shutting Session Manager down too, but the problems on Twitter persisted. I can't tweet. I can't scroll. I can't favorite. I can't even use settings to log in or out.
My homepage does not show the reply box on the left side. When I click it, a box opens. But it has little dots as borders, not solid lines. When I type in letters, they are grey. No "tweet" or "reply" button pops up. When I try to click on the little spiky wheel to get to settings in the upper right hand corner, nothing happens. It just sits there staring at me without any change. Same with any attempts to favorite, etc. When I try to scroll my timeline, I get that dreaded spinning grey wheel.
Also, I noticed that when attempting to scroll timelines, not only do I get that dreaded spinning grey wheel, sometimes just the grey bird shows up, and only after scrolling down once. And this is on a timeline holding thousands of tweets. So none of them can be read beyond the first page!
I've contacted Twitter about it, though they continue to make finding a way to reach Twitter Support with a support request extremely difficult.
Please help.
Thank you.
In addition to the above issues, strangers have been forcing follows on my Twitter timeline. It's really scary. I've been blocking/reporting them for spam using other browsers. I also changed my password using another browser, but now I cannot even sign in to Twitter on Firefox. I have to use Firefox for other reasons, or I would have gone to another browser for everything by now.

Hi Kcat, I'm not sure I understand the second issue, but you may have some malware on your computer that is hijacking your Twitter session. If you haven't scanned recently, please try some of these tools to supplement your regular security regimen: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. (Those are all or nearly all for Windows; if you run a different OS, that article might not help.)
With respect to Firefox, as you know from your long troubleshooting, there are separate settings (profile) and program folders. Either could be a factor, so I'll address them separately.
To test how Firefox runs "uncustomized" on your system, could you do a two-minute experiment?
Create a new Firefox profile
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
firefox.exe -P
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
You'll click the Create Profile button. I recommend using the default location suggested, and to avoid data loss, not re-using any existing folder. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
Does Twitter work any better in the new profile?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.
Hey Kcat,
If the above information does not resolve your issue, please consider creating a new thread containing the specific details of your issue.
Doing so will allow the Mozilla volunteers to give you solutions that are more helpful to you. This may help them to solve your problem faster and more efficiently.
Please, feel free to post the link to your thread on this thread for volunteers interested in assisting you.
Thank you.
Hi Kcat, I looked up your earlier posts and discovered that you use a Mac. The way to create a new profile is different on Mac, so for those steps, please see this article: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles. If you do not get Mac-specific instructions, please check the left column for two drop-down lists for your Firefox version and Operating System and make sure they match yours.
