Win XP support is ending & Firefox posted; "Unsupported browsers receive no security updates, have known exploits,& can be dangerous to use." does this mean it's been dangerous all along and the security updates and patches are fixing a sinking ship??? I realize there will always be problems with hackers exploiting vulnerabilities but, firefox has been out for how long? how many engineers work on the program regularly? I would think Firefox's XP version would be locked up like Ft.Knox at this point in time.

No, what that means is that all software has security issues, and as they are found they are fixed. New technologies come out that prevent entire families of attacks as well. At the same time, hackers and virus writers are also researching, and trying to find new ways to attack systems.

It's a never ending battle, and once software stops getting updates, it's an unchanging target that gets easier and easier for hackers to infiltrate.

You should either update to Windows 7 or 10 (I suggest 10) or Linux so you can continue to use modern software. XP is NOT safe to use on the web.

I think you misunderstood... It was not say Firefox is vulnerable all this time but will potentially be as there will be no more security updates for the legacy 52 ESR.

Firefox 52 ESR is almost EOL as 52.9.0esr out on June 26 was the last major update for the old legacy 52 ESR. It will be EOL with no more security and or allowed stability fixes after September 5th as only 62.0 Release and 60.2.0 ESR will be the current versions then. Originally 52.8.0esr was going to be the last major update but current ESR was moved from 59.0 to 60.0.

Firefox 53.0 and later Releases on Windows has required Windows 7, 8 (8.1), 10 to run.

ESR short for Extended Support Release was intended for Enterprise users in mind and not for regular users. The 52.0 ESR was not made for to support WinXP and Vista in mind but for Enterprise users.

It was a bonus that 52 ESR was a option for WinXP and Vista users to still have a updated browser option for a while longer and will be almost 2 1/2 years past when Chrome, Chromium, Opera dropped XP/Vista back in April 2016 and 4 1/2 years since Microsoft made it EOL in support for regular users back in April 2014.

If the Firefox ESR concept did not exist then Mozilla would have perhaps dropped WinXP/Vista as of Firefox 53.0 Released on April 19, 2017.

After Sept 5th there will be no major web browser that is still updated and runs on the EOL Windows XP and Vista.

Besides using Windows 7, 8 (8.1), 10 you could perhaps dual boot with a light Linux distro (Lubuntu, Xubuntu among others) as some still supports the ancient 32-bit CPU's.
