how do I customize my desktop shortcut images so they have something other than a Firefox image?
when I installed FireFox, all my desktop shortcut images from Outlook Express imported fine.
but any new shortcuts on the desktop have the FireFox image, instead of the image for that web page (e.g. the PayPal or Craig's List logo).
frankly this makes for a downright BORING desktop that is harder to use.
is there a fix for this??
thanks, -C in J

Right-click a shortcut and open Properties. At the bottom of the Shortcut tab use the button labeled Change icon... to browse for a different image to use.
good information, but not a solution.
following this procedure, when I browse for an icon the only ones available are variants of the FireFox logo.
how does one find a file with the specific icon/image for something like PayPal or the US Post Office?
Look, that is how Windows works for non-IE browsers, it's not particular to just Firefox desktop shortcuts. This is really a Windows support issue.
That Browse... button in the Change Icon window allows you to select any image that you have saved on your hard drive.
To save the Favicon image for any website, while you're viewing that website open Tools > Page Info > Media tab and locate the favicon.ico image on the list of Address and click on it so it is highlighted. Then use the Save As... above the Media Preview pane, which is where you can see the image you highlighted and verify you have selected the correct image address.
If the website doesn't use the "standard" favicon.ico image for their "web site icon", it's going to take a little more time to locate and save the correct image.
