Can't log into secure sites
For the last couple of weeks or more I've had an intermittent problem when trying to log into secure sites (online banking, etc.) with Firefox 31.0 on my MacBook Pro (Mavericks).
I enter my username and password and I'm advanced to the next page to enter my secure PIN, but this then throws me almost instantly back to the initial login page.
If I carry out these steps with Safari, the process completes as expected (I'm logged in) with no problems. This also works fine for Chrome.
Thinking this might be a Flash plugin problem, I updated my Flash. No change. Firefox still didn't want to know.
This morning I updated my FF to 34.0.5. Still no change.
What do I need to do to fix this problem? This is a very annoying issue and I've run out of ideas for fixing it.
Many thanks.

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.
- check the permissions on the about:permissions page and in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
- Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
- Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.
- Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
