i have changed the home page in internet options a dozen times so far and i have done everything in the help section that is supposed to solve the problem but still every time i log in it goes back to the yahoo search page what is wrong

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
