For the past few days Firefox browser videos requiring Flash player do not open but give me the 'crash screen'. It works fine with Internet Explorer because it is built in. I have tried all of the recommended fixes from adobe and and firefox.

I have refreshed Firefox
I have enabled in firefox
I have disabled all plugins and extensions then tried enabling Flash Player
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Flash player a few times
I have tried adjusting Flash player settings
    " deleting FPs cache, etc.

I have not been able to adjust FPs "hardware acceleration" because it won't open in the support pages.

I have: a newer toshiba Satellite L70 (intel i7)

64bit

windows 8.1

I am stumped!

Hello jmacork, try to toggle the dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode to true.

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise! to continue to the about:config page.
  3. copy/paste in the search field the next bold preference dom.ipc.plugins.flash.disable-protected-mode
  4. double-click on it to make it true.
  5. exit firefox and restart it.

thank you

Thanks! I tried that before and tried it again just now (I toggled from "false" to "true") but the media player window still crashes--I get the message "The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed."

I' m having exactly the same problems on a week old ASUS 64 bit Windows 8.1 notebook. I have reinstalled flash player several times, refreshed Frirefox, and even installed a 32 bit version of flash player (v17) but though it worked for an hour or two it started crshing again. The flash player help screen won't load the adobe symbol sayuing that it need flash player. I am at my wits end, can anyone suggest anything. If I disable or uninstall flash player I can still view viedos in YouTube but not on other site such as BBC.co.uk.

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

https://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Interesting because my computer is also 64 bit 8.1. I also tried an earlier version of Flash Player as advised by another website forum. (sorry I cant tewl you which I have tried so many things) I don't know if it is related but since about the same time the FP crashes started, I have been experiencing some problems when starting Microsoft office 2013 programs like Word and Powerpoint but they mostly work every time. I am going to try the new version of FP out yesterday it is 17...

I had this problem Flash would start and stop about 3 times then crash. I tried everything. I had purchased a blue tooth speaker which I did not always have turned on. I plugged in a set of ear buds, and it stopped the problem.

Now that is very odd. Were your speakers working?

I didn't have any speakers plugged in. I had bought a blue tooth speaker but only used it now and then. I used to have the ear buds plugged in all the time and used them when I wanted to listen. When I bought the blue tooth, I took out the ear buds. I know. Crazy, but so far seems to work.

What does that mean?

What exactly happens when you follow the instructions in this Adobe help page (it's linked from the Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again article) ?

All, I tried just about everything suggested here and FP still crashed. However when I followed the link from FredMcD, to Adobe, I ended up doing a clean uninstall of FP version 17...134 (the latest) using the Adobe uninstaller. (I was intending to install an earlier FP version) but guess what? Now that I have No Flash Player installed I am now able to see all the videos on webpages again! including YouTube, etc. The Adobe uninstaller link is on the Adobe forum page https://forums.adobe.com/message/4041846#4041846 Maybe my "QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.6 7.7.60 is filling in--I don't know but I have spent way too much time on this issue for having a new Toshiba L-70 that has an Intel i7 chip. Since this just occurred I'll let you know if anything is still amiss over the next day or so.

You didn't mention other sites but videos on YouTube can be displayed using HTML5 instead of Flash. See https://www.youtube.com/html5

P.S. You can test that here: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#html5_video

I've had the same problem since FP 11. As with everybody else I've tried everything and then some with no effect. What is a little strange, with me anyway, that when I do a fresh FP install, it will work until I power off the computer and upon restart FP crashes. I thought with FF37 this problem would be alleviated, but, still the same problem. I've just disabled FP. If I need to see something that requires FP I use my Chrome browser. I've spent enough time over the months trying to figure this out. Time to throw in the towel.

I have tried all of the recomended "fixes" for adobe flash player, and nothing has fixed it so it stops crashing, what else can be done?

Do you have your speakers plugged in? That was my problem. I tried all the fixes. When I plugged in the speakers flash worked. Flash would start play about a second, then rewind and do that 3 times then crash. I plugged the speakers in and it works now.

speakers are built in so yes :(

Are the speakers working? Also, try to plug in an exterior speaker.

Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac Then reinstall the latest version.

On the help page the video I am supposed to 'right click on' is crashed with this message: "the Adobe flash plugin has crashed. Reload the page to try again." When I right click I see the usual firefox interface menu with choices like "View Page Source" and "View Page Info", etc. I know the box you are talking about with the picture of the mic and and video camera, I believe.
