recently closed windows slot is not greyed out but nothing is being displayed

I have just updated my Firefox and I closed a window and when I wanted that window open again the recently closed windows slot is not greyed out but no box or any sort of pop up window appear. I have tried some of the suggestions that have been posted here about this problem but nothing is working.

If you use the "new" application menu (accessed using the "3-bar" menu button) > History > Restore Closed Windows does that do anything?

No nothing happens or appears even though it isn't greyed out
