Hello,

Since yesterday I have a problem with Firefox. Whenever I click on certain images or websites, they automatically relink me to the Yahoo Search Engine with a filled in search term. I don't know why this is happening all of a sudden and how I could fix this problem. Please help me!

Anyone knows how to fix this?

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

See the link at the top of the results that says "Learn More"? Most likely that will provide information about the service or add-on which is causing this problem.

On Macs, the unbidden appearance of a Yahoo results page usually is caused by Spigot or Conduit add-ons, or something else that snuck in undetected with some other software you downloaded.

Please try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Cmd+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or remove). Especially if you find something called SearchMe. Bear in mind that all extensions are optional and none are included with Firefox when you first get it.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that help you regain control?

I just resetted Firefox and I think this solved the problem. Thanks for the time and reactions!
