We have 2 users (each on different computers) accessing the same IMAP email account, it is annoying that both computers will download the same message but 1 will be marked as read and the other will be unread. I really need a solution that both PCs get to see new mail as new mail ( turning off the pre view which I think is a solution isnt really a solution as it will add too much time to the day )

There is no such thing as a 'preview'. If you're talking about the message pane, a message visible there has been opened. In Thunderbird options you can set the time when a message will be marked as read after opening it. At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button > Options > Display > Advanced > Reading.
