How to move the address/url/location/awsome bar

Hi guys,

Back before the whole Australis update to firefox in version 29, basically all of the elements/buttons were moveable. With version 29 a couple of things were locked down. One of those was the address bar. That was a bit frustrating for me because it meant that I couldn't put the address bar beside the tabs (so that there is only on bar along the top of the window).

I asked about this not long after version 29 was released and the solution that was suggested to me was Classic Theme Restorer. I really liked that addon but the developer just kept adding features and I only wanted it so that I could move the address bar. In the end it got so memory heavy that I decided it was time for it to go. I am now wondering if there is away of making the address bar element moveable again? (Besides the obvious Classic Theme Restorer)

A toggle, switch, script etc. would be ideal!

Thanks

The inactive Classic Theme Restorer extension that you have may interfere with whatever customizations you try to do without that extension. My suggestion is to start with a new Profile first.

As far as moving the address/url/location/awsome bar, it's better to move everything else.

What's wrong with where is it? You want tabs on the bottom? Move the tab-strip via 'code' rather than moving the Navigation Toolbar where address/url/location/awsome bar are stuck.

Like when a huge rock is in the way, dig a hole next to that rock and shove in it there. IOW, it's a lot easier to use leverage to roll the rock that it is to lift it up and move it out of the way.

Sorry! Probably wasn't clear enough the first time. Let me expand my explanation.

I have uninstalled Classic Theme Restorer (and I don't regret having done so) I am not having any trouble with my Firefox. Everything (from its looks to its operation) are exactly how I have them set to be.

Secondly I am not trying to move the tabs strip to be above or below the address bar. I actually want to position the address bar on the same line as the tabs. Is there away of coding that in maybe?? I want it somewhat like this attached image. It might seem odd but it's what I am after, which is why I was looking to make that element moveable again.

Did you try that with a fresh Profile that has never had the Classic Theme Restorer extension installed? Uninstalling an extension doesn't remove all traces of that extension from about:config, and usually leaves old preferences lying around. And CTR has an unusually large number of preferences.

Sorry, I can't get the Customize feature to allow moving the tab-strip to the Navigation Toolbar or the "URL Bar container" to the tab-strip.

The "Searchbar container", the "Bookmarks Toolbar items", and all the "Toolbar buttons" (except for the 3-bar Open Menu button) can be moved at will; to another location or hidden in Customize _ Additional Tools and Features or in the Menu Panel.

Beyond trying to move those two things short of using userChrome.css script or a UserStyle with Stylish, I don;t see how that can be done. If you can locate a UserStyle that accomplishes that, use that: https://userstyles.org/

And if you post the URL to that type of UserStyle here, I should be able to use the correct lines of code particular to doing that via userChrome.css alone so that you may not need to use Stylish. But sometimes a bit of userContent.css is used in a UserStyle and that complicates things, a bit.

Warning before you start looking for a UserStyle - the search for that site sucks and there is no "sort" by Firefox version number. You may find pre-Australis "Styes" along with "Styles" that you are looking for and spend many hours looking. Not for the "faint of heart".'

Or wait for another contributor around here who has a better grasp of CSS in Australis - my abilities dropped off sharply when Australis arrived on the scene. UserStyles.org has become my crutch to help me survive Australis.
