can i add a new permanent category to a calendar event?

For each new calendar event, I have to create a new category, ex. Appointment, but it doesn't "stick"! Is there a way to create permanent categories?

Thanks for the reply! I clicked on Tools/Options/Calendar/Categories, then clicked on Add... and added a new category and color. Thanks again.
