URL bar goes all the across the top, I do not have a searsh bar.
The URL bar goes to the bookmark Icon, the search bar is not there. If I go to open menu and to customize it appears but it has a doted out line around it, I can't get it to stay when I got out of customize I am using windows 8.1& Firefox 56.0.1 64bit.

Without even knowing it, you may have volunteered for this Mozilla experiment, called 'Shield studies'
Would you please go to :
Options => Privacy & Security => under 'Data Collection and Use' :
Did you uncheck : 'Allow Firefox to install and run studies' or is it checked ?
If you don't want to participate in any of these experiments, then please uncheck that option.

You may have received a special extension as part of a Mozilla Shield study.
You can open the about:studies page to see currently installed Shield studies and possibly disable specific studies to opt-out.
