Reply and forward do not include original mail in 57.0b2 needed to reduce emoticon size in Ubuntu 18.04

Original problem was that emoticons in mail headers where too big. On advice from this site I installed newest version by running: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/thunderbird-next sudo apt update && sudo apt-upgrade. This installed the newest version with small emoticons. However, clicking forward or reply on a mail leaves me with a window as if I were to compose a new mail. The content of the mail to be forwarded is gone. Looks like the buttons are attached to the wrong (create new mail) function.

System: I7-8700K ubuntu 18.04
