problem migrating to new computer keeping POP account
I did the following:
- Made sure that I was running the same version of Thunderbird on both computers, namely 60.6.1 64 bit
- Did not create an account on the new computer after installing Thunderbird.
- On the new computer, in /Users/username/Library, renamed the Thunderbird folder to ThunderbirdORIG
- Using a memory stick, transferred the Thunderbird folder to the new computer from OldComputer/Users/username/Library to NewComputer/Users/username/Library. (The username is the same on both computers).
When I start Thunderbird on the new computer it does not open my mail or calendar. It asks me to make a new account.
OS: on new computer Mac OS Mojave on old computer, Mac OS Sierra.
I use a POP account on the old computer and wish to continue that way on the new computer. I do not want to switch to IMAP,
Why does my method not work? How can I achieve my goal?
Thanks for your help. Andynic

Hi Matt,
I get it.
I copied the file without shutting down Thunderbird on the old computer, transferred it to the new, and when I started Thunderbird on the new, it is an image of what is on the old.
Thanks

and was Thunderbird running while you did all this moving and copying? Usually when the result you have show is obtained on the the following is also true.
- The entire Thunderbird folder from the library has not been copied
- The Thunderbird folder has not been copied to replace the existing one
Or
- Thunderbird was running and when closed replaced the path to the profile with the one it was actively using before the copy was completed.
Hi Matt, Thank you for your reply. I'm afraid I am a bit confused as to what the state of things should be.
Concerning what I did, when the file was transferred from the old to the new computer, Thunderbird was not running on either.
On the old computer, Thunderbird was shutdown just prior to copying the file to the memory stick.
On the new computer. Thunderbird was not running during the copy operation.
