Thunderbird keeps reverting to old address book

I have cleaned up my address book several times removing old contacts but after a while the removed contacts show up again in the address book. Is there a way to correct this?

For Personal Address Book, try this: export the address book to LDIF format (Tools/Export), then Help/Troubleshooting, Profile Folder, Open Folder, close TB, rename abook.sqlite to abook.sqlite.bak, restart TB, where a new, empty Personal Address Book is made automatically. Import the LDIF from Tools/Import...Address books... Text file... select the LDIF file. The contacts in the imported book can be moved to the empty Personal Address Book by drag and drop. See if deleted contacts now stay deleted.
