how do i stop folders from being marked as read when they are highlighted (intermittant problem)
one some, only some, folders that have new messages and are blue, will mark as read all the unread messages inside if i highlight the folder before clicking to open. all i do is hover on those folders. on others i can hover and move all around come back etc and everything remains blue unread folder. I can come back to the offending folder after another message comes in and it is normal, highlight hover etc and it remains unread until i open the folder and the new messages. this seems to be only a folder problem, don't see individual messages becoming marked as read just by hovering and highlighting them. Thunderbird 91.7.0 (64-bit) Windows 11 home. I have just moved to this new computer, wasn't happening on windows 10 pro on old computer. I have changed the mark as read from immediately to after 5 seconds in general settings but that didn't fix it. Thank you

Additional Information I am using POP and this is the only client reading the mail and only on this one computer. There is an additional clue, if I open a folder with multiple that has multiple unread messages and read one message, then all the unread messages are marked read. this happens every time unlike the issue with the folder which is intermittently happening. Always when the folder is unmarked by the hovering then the messages inside are marked as read.
clarification: when I say marked as read i am meaning that on the folder the blue turns to bold black and on the messages the yellow dot is removed but the lettering stays bold, also of note in a folder with yellow dots if i read any message in that folder the yellow dots disappear.
