address book
it's difficult to delete an address in an address book. with just one click it's not possible to delete it. best is also to select a few addresses and delete them at once. when i click on it i see the modify window where i must look for the word delete. by clicking right i can delete it but the whole list does not appear but an address in window is opened! pls, adjust the software which at this moment is bad . the best solution is : one click on a selected address /-es/ - to make it possible to delete at once.

You will find it impossible to delete anything with just one click because the first click is always necessary to select an item to have focus.
- Select contact and press Delete Key (One click and one press of key)
- Right click on contact and select Delete (One right click and one left click)
You may see a small pop up windows asking if you are sure because believe it or not plenty of people select the wrong contact in error because there is no Undo - Better safe than sorry. But the Blue 'Yes' button already has focus, so just press 'Enter' key.
many thanks for your reply. what i dont like when : Right click on contact and select Delete (One right click and one left click)
the small pop windows does not disappear and its opened and shows the first address from the whole list! you know what i mean? what i need is not see this window but just the whole list. this is my suggestion/tip to developers...ok?
I've attached some images below to show precisely what I select and what I see.
I created two contacts so I could delete them: Bob XMan and Tom Yman
I select first contact I want to delete: Bob XMan It is highlighted blue. I see in lower section: Write, Event and Search below it is the selected contact details and 'Edit' - why because at this point I've only selected the contact. If you select one contact it always displays the contact and that is the expected action. If I only select one and use the right click and click on delete then nothing changes edit contact section, but I will see a pop up window which says "Are you sure you want to delete the contact XMan, Bob?
Image shows: I select Bob XMan - notice I have selected only one contact at this point so it shows that contact details below The dark section is deliberate to hide my contacts.
I press 'Ctrl' and keep it pressed whilst I scroll down and then select the second contact Tom Yman whom I want to delete This means I have two contacts highlighted - both are blue.
In lower section below the list , the edit details of first selected contact has gone and it is replaced with: I see 'Write, Event and New List' Both names are displayed below in list style Image shows two contacts selected and both names listed.
I right click on a highlighted name (if instead you left clicked then you are removing the previous selection of highlighted contacts, so it will obviously remove previous choice and now display the current selected contact details) So important you right click on previously highlighted contact and you see a drop down menu
Image shows two contacts highlighted and two names in the lower section. It shows the drop down menu because I did a right click on a highlighted contact - Tom Yman.
In the drop down menu, I clicked on 'Delete'
A pop up appears 'Are you sure you want to delete these 2 contacts' Yes or NO Image shows the two contacts highlighted as pale grey because the pop up is the window with focus. If I select 'Yes' both of the selected contacts are deleted.
It works perfectly well and is well designed and it has the are you sure window just in case you made an error and have the option to stop.
So if you are doing something different then I suggest you do as I've just done. Create images shwowing step by step so the forum can see where you are going wrong.
I do appreciate that it takes three clicks when wanting to delete.
- A right click to see drop down.
- A left click to select the 'Delete' option
- Followed by a third click when you are asked 'Are you sure..'
I have put forward an enhancement request to add a 'Delete' button in the lower display (horizontal view') which would reduce the number of clicks and would appear as an obvious selection instead of guessing that you needed to do a right click first.
This is the link to the enhancement request. We can only wait to see if this is considered as ok. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1795290
many thanks for this extra info/explanation/ and also for the second text.i have a different layout: what you show i don't have. my version is 102.3.3 (32-bits) and is up-to-date. i also see this: you are currently using the release update channel... when i click left or right appears almost the same windows.. see my 2 screenshots... as i said ,i need to click many times to reach a word- delete- dutch- verwijderen... clicking right -address- anwb- when i delete it- this window stays and jumps to show the first address form the whole list! bad idea...after deleting ,this window should disappear... clicking left -richard- first to edit and than delete , here this window goes away and i see a list, other list ,one of these : a personal list and a ? collected list ... why these 2 lists? plus all addresses book as the third itmes! my wish is to see/have only one list of these 3 itmes! just : my address book ! can i install this this way? here is my example - it can be simple, practical, nice-er... about deleting -to be honest -all this is not that easy and it takes so many steps just only to delete! i think it should be easier...
re :clicking right -address- anwb- when i delete it- this window stays and jumps to show the first address form the whole list!
ok following your instructions - I select an address book to find contact. I select contact then right click and I deleted contact - when I deleted it, the focus goes to the top contact in the preselected address book and therefore displays details of that contact in lower section. As an address book has already been selected then it will be displayed and focus will be in that address book because you had previously selected a contact in that address book, so the default when unknown is to select the top contact.
re clicking left -richard- first to edit and than delete ,
This is an alternative way to find a 'Delete' button - it is in the 'Edit' contact window.
If I use this method then after clicking on 'Delete' button - the Edit contact window closes and the focus is put in the 'Search Personal Address Book' at the top and I see the entire list of contacts that are displayed in the 'Personal Address Book'. I have the 'Personal Address Book' as my default address book and it was the last selected address book because it contained the contact I deleted.
re: this window goes away and i see a list, other list ,one of these : a personal list and a ? collected list ... why these 2 lists? plus all addresses book
Thunderbird has two default address books. 'Personal Address Book' which is also the default address book when auto adding a contact to an address book from a received email headers.
'Collected Addresses' - this is an address book used to collected email addresses which you send an email to but the contact was never saved in the 'Personal Address Book'. This means it collects any email address you perhaps only use on a couple of occasions and the email is not someone you want in the Personal Address Book. Please note: you can choose where outgoing email address get put or switch it off.
'All Address Books' is not a real address book. It is a virtual address book like a complete search view of everything. This is very useful if you use several address books and you are not sure where a particular contact has been put OR if you are trying to find a rogue email address which may have same name but wrong email address. It has it's uses.
You can set up an address book to be the default one which has focus when you open the 'Address Book'.
This is where the you can choose the default address book and select where to automatically add outgoing email addresses which are not already saved in the Personal Address Book. You can also choose to uncheck that checkbox, so switching off the ability to auto collect those outgoing email addresses. Menu icon > Settings OR click on the gear wheel 'Settings' icon located at the bottom of the 'Spaces Toolbar' Select 'Composition' Scroll down to 'Addressing' section Select 'Local Address Books'
If you want to collect outgoing email addresses which you entered manually because they are not in any address book: Select checkbox 'Automatically add outgoing email addresses to my' and choose the address book you want - Collected Addresses is usually set up as the default one, so you can keep those not used very much non personal email addresses separate.
Set up the default address book you want to see auto selected when you open the Address Book. 'Default startup directory in the address book window:' choose the address book you want.
many thanks for this long, interesting and first of all learning explanation.to finish this subject : the best way is like in all mail groups: i select a mail and click delete on my keyboard: simple, fast and nice...i can do it in the book but this strange pop-up appears and does not go away and jumps to show the first address above! this way, this pop-up, bothers me... i advice to add the same way i talk here about -to delete a selected mail in each group: just click/delete and when i click right at the selected address i see more options and that is good, here i dont need more... you did not respond about my other subject : 11-10-2022 00:36
