Retrieving emails from a deactivated aol account via thunderbird

I had to deactivate an aol account that was being backed up and accessible via thunderbird. With that account being deactivated now I am unable to access neither one to retrieve my old files and folders. Any ideas? Thanks.

If the messages are still viewable on the Thunderbird message folders, then they can be saved. If not, they are probably lost.
