Lost all bookmarks and saved data

I turned my laptop on and went to Firefox to get my emails and browse but when the application started I realized all my bookmarks had disappeared. After a bit of digging it looks like Firefox has updated and in the process wiped all of my data because I don't have any history or back up points. I really need help as there is so much information I use on my bookmarks.

I managed to find an old back up from last year which has bought back all of my old bookmarks. Thanks for the suggestions
