But I have everything set up correctly. moreover I have already successfully sent emails and received them a few weeks ago and I haven't changed the settings since then. And now for some reason it's not working

If you have enabled a VPN then disable it because most servers like to see the correct IP address oherwise they think you might be a hacker, so they block access.

What Anti-Virus are you using ?

It would help to know what server you are using and to check on whether you are using correct server settings for smtp.

If outlook server then I need to know as Microsoft have altered what smtp can be used for sending.

You could access 'Account Settings' and post an image of the smtp server settings for the account.

In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information Scroll down to 'Mail and News Accounts' Copy all data in that section and post it in this forum and if you have more than one account please tell us which account/server is the problem.
