when I try to update firefox 3.6.8 on my iMac I get the following: You don't have the needed systemrights [dutch:systeemrechten] to install this; or: you do not have the authority to get entry to some parts. It is difficult to me to translate the problem in english! It is impossible to update firefox!

  • Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re)install.
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded.

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.
