yesterday I replaced version 4 into 5,after I got your information, that version 5 was available.I installed it without a problem. But unfortunately it was informed, that version 5 was NOT compatible with McAfee SiteAdvisor. In version4 McA SA worked very well. What must I do to solve this problem?Or I must wait till you will inform me,that this problem has been solved? McAfee SiteAdvisor is a very important program to check the right and bad websites. Or I must reinstall version 4 again and delete version 5? With kind regards, hans muller/doorn /holland

McAfee needs to update their addon to be compatible with Firefox 5 (which may be as simple as changing the maximum version number). You can try changing the maximum version number in the install.rdf file yourself, but that's not guaranteed to work. If you want to try, instructions are in the first answer here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/837142

Otherwise, you'll have to wait for McAfee to update their addon. You should go to their forums or open a support ticket with McAfee to let them know they need to update (although they should know already).

Be aware that if you currently choose to use McAfee Site Advisor it has some serious problems for Firefox users, check http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions for some things to watch out for.

McAfee have taken the decision to rewrite the Firefox SiteAdvisor plugin to make it easier to update. This should ensure that Mozilla's fast-release schedule does not cause lengthy delays after future version updates. What it means for Firefox now though is that until the rewrite is complete - and tested - SiteAdvisor is being prevented from loading in Firefox in order to avoid the possibility of software incompatibility.

The SA rewrite is projected to take a few weeks to complete and test; it should be ready by about the third week of July, although the exact date is not being given at this stage. It could be earlier.

In the meantime, users who are concerned about the safety of websites may wish to consider WOT as a temporary substitute. WOT ratings are set by user consensus rather than by automated site testing, so WOT is not a full replacement for SiteAdvisor. It is, however, a good rating tool in its own right (I use both it and SiteAdvisor in all my browsers) and is apparently unaffected by the upgrade to FF5.

There is a discussion about this on the McAfee forums HERE
