Each time program starts, shows no connection, then I go to network connection and manually set no proxy or any other except manual and it gets connection. Why does it not remember the settings for next time?
Firefox 5. Laptop. Recently shows no connection. Manually setting network connection different than manual it loads websites. But when closed and opened again no connection. It does not remember the settings each time it starts. IE works with no problem.

Try the following solutions and whichever setting works, keep it Permanent:
1) go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> click "Settings..." button infront of Connection -> select option2 -> Click OK -> OK
2) go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> click "Settings..." button infront of Connection -> select option3 -> Click OK -> OK
3) go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Network -> click "Settings..." button infront of Connection -> select option1 -> Click OK -> OK
Check which solution works.
It works but only until you close application, then it is same problem. But reading all support forum I found solution. Restarted browser in safe mode with ad-ons off. And since then everything works fine. But ad-ons disappeared, had to reload again. And now all looks good. Thanks.

I can't click on "solved it" to my own post. Other posts did not work.
None of the three suggestions worked; well, to be exact, they all work (Firefox is able to navigate) but only as long as Firefox is not shutdown... It's when Firefox is restarted that I get again the message: Firefox is configured to use a proxy but the proxy refuses any connection... Obviously, I must be missing a setting somewhere which would tell Firefox to remember the netword settings from one session to the next... and THAT is the problem I would like to resolve.
Does the Network Setting that you chose earlier got changed ?? IF Yes, then:
- Again select the Network Setting's Option 1 or 2 or 3 (that worked earlier)
-> How to fix preferences that won't save
Check and tell if its working.
