I have had AVG virus protection for a long time and never had a problem Now I am not protected cause Firefox won't let it update. When I go onto Firefox and type in www.avg.com it says server cannot be found. When I try Google and I click on the page I need it says server cannot be found. When I go into AVG it says I am not on-line which I am. Firefox is not letting this site on. Why is this happening.

Firefox version 3.6.18
First, you need to update Firefox; you are using version 3.6.18 and the current version is 3.6.19 with version 3.6.20 due out in the next 2 weeks or so. You can update automatically or manually. See https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Updating+Firefox?bl=n&s=update%20automatically

"not on-line"
Go to File > Work Offline; if Work Offline is checked, click it to remove the check mark. See if that solves your problem.

Also, some malware/viruses keep you from going to sites that have anti-malware products. You may have been infected. If that is the case and you can not get onto any of the sites in the following article, you may need to download the scanners from another computer, put the installers on a USB drive or CD/DVD, transport that to your system, install then update and run the scanners. You can also use one of the FREE forums (at the end of the following article) to get malware removal assistance from their experts. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Check_for_malware

Firefox 3.6.19: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

Did you try doing malware scanning with other scanners, as suggested?

  • No AV/AS product is 100% correct 100% of the time.
  • Never use more than one AV/AS application in an active state at one time.
  • Never use more than one firewall at one time.
  • Some "experts" suggest not having 2 of the above installed on your system at the same time; I know that some AV/AS products do peacefully co-exist, but not all.

I am still have the same problem it won't let me open up www.avg.com

Something on your system is causing that. I can open the AVG site with no problem using Firefox 3.6.19, Firefox 5.0.1, and Firefox 6beta3.
