How did I lose all my passwords that automatically filled in? Can I get them back?

I used to have all my passwords stored, so it automatically filled them in. Now it has lost them all, and it doesn't have a popup from firefox where it asks if I want the word stored. I need my OLD passwords back..I don't have them and now can't get into many of my sites. Thanks for any help you can give me.. I no longer have that bar on the top either.
