When I try to save files via right-click "save link as," Firefox is crashing sometimes several times in a row. When I reopen it and reopen download window, sometimes the file is actually still downloading but other times the crash interrupted it. This is happening several times a day but only started a month or two ago. Sometimes, it won't crash for a while but then decides to an hour into the session. No rhyme or reason. PLEASE tell me someone else is seeing this happen!?!?

If the download is resumed then the download status has been saved to the downloads.sqlite file before Firefox crashed. If not then Firefox hadn't been able to do this.

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more crash reports that have this format:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.

Try to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder to reset all file actions.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
