add ons tool bar and tabs disappeared when opened closed browser.
I have deleted and re-installed 17.01 three times now. The first time was to get into my bank site. The second because I still was having problems with downloading. My browser has been working well for about a couple of weeks. I was using the browser, closed it with tabs open (oh, and I haven't had a tab open alert, since upgrading to 17). Normally, when I reopen the browser, all the tabs are there and open. This time, the tabs were open but my add on tool bar on top was closed, even though it was checked to be open. I closed the browser, and reopened it, and not only was the add on tool bar gone, but now all the tabs were gone too. I uninstalled and re-installed 17.01, and nothing changed. I have come to hate 17 with a passion.
And, no, I haven't installed anything new, and I don't have tab mix (what ever that is) add on.

I don't know if rebooting the computer changed the situation or not. The bank site did come up after the reboot.
I am so angry, I have lost an entire day, dealing with this mess. And, I still can't be sure something won't happen again.
I know that you have been trying to help me, and I should be thankful, but all I can see at this moment is a ton of work a head of me, which I honestly did not need.

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
- do not clear the "Browsing History"
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox Profile Folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).
I couldn't get to any of the links that you provided, I got the good old 'can't connect' page which is pretty normal for me.
I don't clear my history, although I cleared all that and the cache when I first re-installed 17, as I was advised. But normally, if things are working, I don't fool around with the set up. I wish to God I hadn't upgraded to 17. I have been a long time Mozilla user, starting with Netscape. I hate Microsoft, and yes, I'm a long time user, who worked in a computer store in the time when a 20 meg hard drive was a big deal.
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

This does not explain why it was working at night, and it was not working in the morning. I do not have automatic updates for anything, including microsoft. Every update has to have my permission. I have not given permission to any updates, and am extremely upset with this 17 issue again. It took me an entire day, last time to 'fix it', and now it looks like it will take me another day to fix it.
Oh, and AVG is my firewall.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

I hate this. I've reset Firefox, and I have absolutely no idea if it has worked. Everything that I had set as far as 'look and feel' is gone. Now I will have to take the next couple of hours trying to get everything back so I can use the damn thing. I absolutely hate the 'new' look and feel of all the programs and websites. If I wanted a blank piece of paper, I would stare at a blank piece of paper. I want my tools handy and visible, not have to go search for them.
Well, apparently the reset didn't work as I can't access the Java website to upgrade my Java. I can't get my browser to look like I had it before, and I am about ready to cry, I am so frustrated.
Did you make any customization changes in the new profile?
Can you attach a screenshot to show what your browser looks like and what you want to change?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.
What happens if you try to go to the Java or Oracle website?
You can find the latest Java version on the Oracle website.
See Java Platform > Java SE 7U10 or Java 6U38 (Download JRE)
Make sure that your security software (firewall) isn't blocking websites.
I can't go to http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp or http://kb.mozillazine.org/Error_loading_websites I get a 'can't connect' message. It is back again as not connecting to various websites.
I want the address bar to go below the menus, but above the tabs. The downloader icon should be on the right, bottom or top.
I use the Internet as a tool. I do not Twitter, or do Facebook, or whatever the 'social' thing is at the moment.
I have no idea who designed this 'new' generation of websites, but they haven't done me any favors. I now have to look to find the sign in box, sometimes it will be part of another menu. But ghosted inside boxes are things like 'enter your reply here' and 'go to a website' which is so obvious that it borders on declaring your user as an idiot. I wish the designers would get their act together and decide if we are smart or idiots.
Oh, great, and now my bank site isn't loading again. Damn it!
Current Firefox versions only show the "Tabs on Top" menu entry in the "View > Toolbars" and "Firefox > Options" menu and in toolbar context menus if the tabs aren't in the default position on top.
If the tabs are on top and the menu entry isn't available and you want to move the tabs below the navigation toolbar then you need to flip the browser.tabs.onTop pref to false on the about:config page.

I had the problem before, when I stupidly upgraded to 17. I was told to check my firewall then, it is AVG, btw. Then someone mentioned to uninstall the upgrade and install 17, as a clean install. I did that, and got access to my bank site. I have not changed my firewall, or anything connected to my firewall. The only thing I have done, today (because it did work a few days ago), uninstall 17 again, and re-install 17 again. That didn't change anything so I was told to do a reset, which I did, and now, not only did I lose information, I can't get into my bank site.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
