I want to copy my bookmarks from a previous Linux installation to the new installation.
I want to copy my bookmarks from a previous installation to a new installation. The previous and new installations are on separate disks. I find bookmarkbackups directorys with bookmarks-yyyy-mm-dd.json in .mozilla/firefox/mwad0hks.default/bookmarkbackups , but can't find the real bookmarks. Can you believe it?
While I am at it, why did you have to screw up the interface? For example, it now takes 2 mouse clicks to access your bookmarks rather than 1. That's progress?

The real bookmarks are stored with your history in the places.sqlite database. If you don't have anything you want to keep in the places.sqlite database on your new setup, you can replace it with the old one. Firefox should be closed when you do that, on both systems.
What method of accessing your bookmarks takes two clicks?
The Firefox version that came when I installed Linux Mint 13 Mate and then did all the updates (there is no "about" button in and location that I can find, so I can't tell you what version).
I am going to try to upload an image, a screenshot showing the two clicks necessary. The first click is one on the three horizontal bar icon to the right of the little house icon and above and to the right of the word "Paste". The second click is the 5 sided star icon with "Bookmarks" written below it.
If there is a "theme" selection or something to get back to a normal Firefox interface, I'd sure use it.

Hi Wayne, I don't have that star on my menu. I wonder whether it's from an add-on?
Could you try this: right-click it and see whether Firefox give you the option to "Move to Toolbar".
Edit: I see now, when you move the combined Star/Bookmarks button to the menu, it changes to that single button.
Modified
The second button next to the star is a drop-marker just like the Bookmarks Menu button had and thus not visible in the Customize palette.
I did have something similar, an option for Menu Bar. I set that and all is well.
I've been working my butt of for the last few days and will try your fix for copying all my email from an older distribution.
Thanks much for your great help.
