When I opened a new tab, I used to get a page that had tiles for some of the sites I visit often. Now I get the Bing search page. The help instructions say I can change the default new tab page by clicking the gear icon on a new page and selecting enhanced, classic, or blank from a drop down list. When I click the gear, I don't get that option list. Instead, a settings page displays, allowing me to make various changes, but the enhanced, classic or blank new tab page choices are not there. What do I do?

Chosen solution

To change the new tab page, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to about:config in Firefox
  2. Locate the browser.newtab.url string
  3. Set the value of this string to the URL of your desired new tab page

This should change the new tab page.

Notes:

  • Set the value to about:newtab to get the classic new tab page
  • Set the value to about:home to get the default home page
  • Set the value to about:blank to get the blank page

Thank you very much. That worked great. The only thing I would add to the instructions is to double click on the browser.newtab.url string and key the new value into the popup window. Otherwise, the instructions are very clear.
