How do i only setup Thunderbird for outgoing messages?

I only wish to setup Thunderbird to send messages for my Gmail IMAP account. I don't want it downloading incoming messages. I use GMail for sending messages.

Create the account, then un-subscribe all the folders.

I hate to think about what it is you're doing that appears to involve sending to people but having no interest in what they say to you.
