For some reason the Firefox Icon that was on my Desk top has disappeared, I can still get on line using the symbol on the bottom of my screen, but would like to get the Icon back on the main part of my Desk top! How can I do that?

Sincerely

Walter C. Scott

Did the shortcut get pinned to the Taskbar? If you right-click the Firefox icon on the Taskbar, does it have the option to "Unpin this program from the Taskbar"? You could do that to return the shortcut to the desktop, or you could make a duplicate shortcut for the desktop.

To make a duplicate shortcut, use the Windows 10 search box to search for firefox.exe -- don't press Enter which might run the program, just let Windows show that it found the program file. Right-click firefox.exe and use Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)

Does that still work in Windows 10?

If not, you can paste the following in the search box and press Enter to open the Firefox program folder, then right-click firefox.exe there:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

I do not have that option. Is there another way to put back on my desktop?

Hi sharun, when you say "I do not have that option" could you tell me where the directions are not working for you?

Also, to provide me more information about your version of Windows and Firefox, could you visit my test page and copy/paste the text in red into your reply:

Usually the two user agent strings in red are the same. If they are different, please copy/paste both.

Thanks.

Firefox is on the task bar and I looked at options and there is not one that you gave or the site gave to move it. This is what it shows with a right click:

open in new tab, open in new window, new private window, Mozilla Firefox, pin to task bar and close all windows.

What can I do??? I do not care for IE and have used Mozilla for many years and want it back.

So whatever I need to do. Oh, right now I am on my old computer (new one has virus) which is windows 7 Thank you

Hi sharun, is it 32-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 7?

On 32-bit Windows, open Firefox's program folder folder by pasting the following into the Start menu search box and pressing Enter:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

On 64-bit Windows, open Firefox's program folder by pasting the following into the Start menu search box and pressing Enter:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

When you get there, scroll down to firefox.exe (when your cursor is anywhere in the list, typing fi should zoom to it).

Then right-click firefox.exe and click Send to to expand that sub-menu, then click Desktop (create shortcut)

Does that work on your Windows?

Hi sharun, alternately, you can use "Pin this program to taskbar" from the Firefox taskbar tile/button so it's always available there instead of or in addition to your desktop. If (like me) your desktop is a bit messy, this is quite handy.

If I say no on closing the logo off of my task bar, removes it.

I will learn much to my diss-satisfaction to use it on the task bar. I really do not like it there and want it back.

Thank you for replying, I do appreciate it.

I'm not sure I understand your last reply. Is this a hypothetical scenario where you pin it and you don't like it pinned and you want to remove it? It will be equally easy to remove because the menu command will be in the same exact place on the right-click menu.

Were you successful sending a shortcut to the desktop?

No. it is still on my task bar. "maybe" I will get use to it but hate it thus far.

but thank you. I will say how did it get on my task bar? I did not do it...

Any time you start a program Windows creates an icon on the task bar so you can manage its open windows. If the icon is still there after you completely exit out of Firefox, it is "pinned" there. But based on one of your earlier replies, I don't think yours was pinned.

That's a completely separate thing from a desktop shortcut. I have both: a desktop shortcut AND a pinned icon on Windows 7. And so can you. You just need to create the shortcut using the steps I described before.

thank you. I will try again.
