I use Verizon and when I check the verizon site, there is only one copy of the email but Thunderbird downloads it several times. This just started a week ago, after several years of regular use and no problems or changes in email.

I understand Verizon migrated their mail platform to AOL.

The migration windows closed 17th October. Is that when the problems started?

It may be you need to have a discussion with Verizon and update your settings in Thunderbird for your new AOL account.
